Adoption is considered a qualifying life event and allows members to add a newly adopted child to their coverage outside of Open Enrollment. To add an adopted child, the member must submit a life event through the THT Member Portal within 60 days of the adoption or placement.
Navigate to the Covered Members section of the portal and select Add Dependent. You will need to upload either an Adoption Decree. If the official Adoption Decree is not yet available, a Placement Decree may be accepted temporarily, as long as the official Adoption Decree must be submitted within six months of the adoption.
Children added due to adoption become effective on the date of adoption or placement.
If the life event is submitted more than 60 days after the adoption, the member must submit an appeal for consideration.
