Divorce and domestic partnership dissolution are qualifying life events that require the removal of an ineligible spouse or domestic partner from coverage. Additionally, any step-children become ineligible following a divorce or domestic partnership dissolution.
Members must submit a qualifying life event through the THT Member Portal under the Covered Members section and provide a complete divorce decree or domestic partnership dissolution document. The documentation must clearly show the effective date of the divorce or dissolution.
Requests should be submitted within 60 days of the divorce or dissolution date. If the request is submitted more than 60 days after the divorce or dissolution, Teachers Health Trust (THT) will still process the removal; however, coverage will generally terminate at the end of the month in which the required documentation is received rather than being retroactively removed to the date of the divorce or dissolution.
Dual District Divorces
If two married employees divorce, dual district status will be removed. This results in separating the two employees onto individual accounts, reissued ID cards, and possible premium increases.
