A dependent's arrival in the United States may qualify as a life event, allowing the member to add the dependent to their coverage outside of Open Enrollment. To request this change, members must log in to the THT Member Portal and submit a life event under the Covered Members section.
Supporting documentation must be provided to verify both the dependent relationship and the dependent's arrival date.
Acceptable documents may include:
Birth Certificates (for children)
Adoption Decree (for adopted children)
Marriage Certificate (for spouses and step-children)
Domestic Partnership Certificate (for domestic partners and children of domestic partners)
Proof of Arrival such as Form I-94, Boarding Pass, or Travel Itinerary
Once approved, coverage for the dependent will generally become effective on the first day of the month following the dependent's arrival in the United States. Members should report this life event within 60 days of the dependent's arrival. Requests submitted more than 60 days after the arrival date will be denied unless an appeal is approved.
Steps to Complete

Processing Timeline
Most life events are processed within 2-3 business days.

If the request is approved, the new dependent will generally appear in the THT systems within 24–72 hours, and replacement ID cards will be mailed to the member's address on file within 2–4 weeks.
