How to Transfer Your Prescription

Switching to a new pharmacy is easier than you might think. You can change your pharmacy at any time. We recommend using a Premier Pharmacy to avoid paying additional choice fees.

You have two main options:

  1. Ask Your New Pharmacy to Transfer It

    1. Most pharmacies are happy to handle the transfer process for you. Simply call or visit the pharmacy you’d like to use and provide:

      1. The name and phone number of your current pharmacy (e.g., CVS or Walgreens)

      2. Your prescription details (medication name, prescription number, etc.)

      3. Your insurance information (found on your UMR medical ID card)

    2. The new pharmacy will then contact CVS or Walgreens to request the transfer.

    3. 🛈 Important: This process relies on your current pharmacy to release the information. While most transfers happen within a few days, delays can occur—and they’re not always the fault of the new pharmacy. We appreciate your patience and encourage you to follow up if needed.

  2. Request a New Prescription from Your Doctor

    1. If you prefer—or if your medication cannot be transferred—you can ask your prescribing physician to send a new prescription directly to your preferred pharmacy.

    2. 🛈 Note: Some doctors may require an office visit before issuing a new prescription, especially for controlled substances or if your prescription is due for renewal.

If you have questions regarding the transfer process, please contact your new pharmacy or your prescribing doctor.
